HIGHLAND MARY
by Wes Martin

Written in 1982 when U.S. Navy submarines anchored in Holy Loch, Scotland

Highland Mary stands
On Scottish hillside
While vessels below
Pass on River Clyde.

Emerald hills rise
Above Dunoon’s shore
Filled with legacy
Of legends and lore.

Into ocean’s depths
Poseidon’s sons sail
In search of a quest
That must never fail.

Bound for open seas
Channel waters churn
As each ship departs
She prays safe return.
